The USB bus consists of four signals. The power signals are VBUS and Signal Ground. VBUS operates at 5VDC and can be configured to provide a default of 100mA, or with additional enumeration settings up to 500mA to a USB device. USB signaling is carried out at 3.3V over the other two signals: DP – USB Data Plus and DM – USB Data Minus. These signals are differential, making them ideal for most environments, including electrically “noisy” ones.
