The Product Identification Number (PID) is a unique 32-bit number associated with a given VID that is self-assigned by the VID holder, and is unique to the type of device. For example, all production units of a particular model of a Vendor’s product line would have a single Product ID. The Serial Identification Number is a 64-bit number self-assigned by the Vendor, and unique to each device. With the example above, each production unit would have the same VID and PID, but unique Serial ID numbers.
