PowerStor Supercapacitors Slide 18

Inflow current is a combination of charge current and leakage current, leakage current is a parasitic element that is modeled as a resistor in parallel with the capacitor. This parallel resistance presents a constant load to the supply and causes the capacitor to self discharge when the supply voltage is removed. Due to supercapacitor construction it takes a very long time for full charge to be achieved, even after 100 hours it is still possible to measure a few micro Amps of charge current. As a result supercapacitors have to be charged for over 100 hours to get a good indication of leakage current or self discharged characteristics.
