This slide illustrates why serial F-RAM is a better solution. F-RAM gives the user the opportunity to simplify a conventional complex EEPROM based design by choosing an F-RAM as the nonvolatile memory solution, to produce better solutions for multiple applications at a lower cost, especially suited for mission critical applications. Using a conventional EEPROM based design, a combined eight times capacity is required for wear leveling, using a wear leveling software algorithm to increase the EEPROM write endurance, plus an additional capacitor to maintain power for 5 ms for the soak time. This complex combination of hardware and software can be replaced with a single pin-to-pin compatible F-RAM of smaller capacity. This produces better solutions in mission critical applications like automotive electronics, industrial controls, smart meters, multi-function printers, and medical devices.
