The unrivalled flux and efficacy of the XB-D in such a small package results in some very real advantages versus the competition at the application level. For example, as shown in the top graphic, a design using 12 XB-Ds tightly packaged together cannot be achieved using any competitor LEDs. For competitor #1, the LED package is too large and asymmetrical to fit in the same space as the XB-D design. The other competitors would require many more LEDs and thus more optics and a larger board which could never fit into the small footprint of the XB-D. As demonstrated on this page, the XB-D design offers the lowest system cost both for the number of LEDs used and for the lower cost of the optics and the board.
