Another design example where the XB-D is particularly effective is the PAR38 lamp. In this limited space, an engineer can use 12 XB-D LEDs and achieve 1300 lumens. On the other hand, given the same space constraint only 6 of competitor #1’s LEDs and 7 of competitor #2’s LEDs can be used and would result in considerably less lumens as can be seen on this page. In addition, the small form factor of the XB-D enables the use of one reflector which is not possible using other LED solutions. Using one reflector enables engineers to achieve an appearance more like a conventional filament. It also reduces multiple shadows in the light beam and reduces the number of optics used which results in lower total system cost and improved appearance.
