Snubber circuits often required by traditional silicon boost diode designs can be eliminated by the use of a Wolfspeed SiC Zero Recovery diode. The result is a significant reduction in component count and improved airflow. The circuit diagram on the left shows a silicon diode in a PFC application and the necessary snubber circuitry. SiC Schottky diodes are used on the right, so no snubber circuitry is needed. Less component count improves Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), and lowers the Bill Of Materials (BOM) cost.
