The benefits that SiC boost diodes bring to the system are obvious. They improve overall system efficiency with significantly reduced switching losses. In addition, by eliminating snubber circuitry that is needed in silicon designs to absorb those reverse recovery currents, the PFC circuit can be simplified when SiC diodes are used. Also, switching frequency can be increased using SiC Schottky diodes. Higher switching speeds allow use of smaller, lighter, less costly transformers, chokes and capacitors. The simpler design also increases system reliability and shortens engineering cycle times. The following slides illustrate these advantages in real system applications.
