As mentioned earlier, higher system efficiency is one of the benefits SiC Schottky diodes bring to the PFC power conversion system. Shown is an actual 500W active PFC boost converter. The efficiency comparison graph shows about 2% efficiency gain, simply by replacing the traditional silicon ultrafast soft recovery boost diode with a Wolfspeed zero reverse recovery SiC Schottky diode. A 2% improvement in efficiency equates to approximately a 24% reduction in power losses.
