Shown here is the edge view of the thermal profile. The temperature rise at the hotspot is 13.7°C. That is a thermal resistance of 2.7°C/W. While that is about the same as a snap-in capacitor’s hotspot-to-case thermal resistance, a snap-in’s hotspot to ambient thermal resistance would be about 7.3°C/W approaching three times the temperature rise. The easy ability to heatsink the MLP and MLS assure easy cooling and long life with high ripple currents.
