The SMC is used to interface different external memories, such as NOR Flash, Single Layer Cell NAND Flash or SLC Flash, LBA-NAND, Static Asynchronous RAM, PSRAM, external LCD controller, external Ethernet controller and any other memory-mapped peripheral. The SMC runs at master clock and offers an 8-bit or 16-bit data bus width depending on the product. It also offers four independent chip select lines at 16 Mbytes per Chip Select, up to 24 bits for the address bus, and a Ready/Busy pin only for the NAND Flash. A new important feature is the off-chip memory scrambling and unscrambling to ensure data confidentiality on the external bus.
