The speed of the SPI has been improved on the SAM3U thanks to the dedicated SPI I/O clock. The clock runs at up to 45MHz at 1.8V and up to 65MHz at 3.0V with a load capacitance of 30 pF. The table shows the improvement in timings, for example, at maximum speed in Master mode, at 3.3V, with a DataFlash device for example which has a 7 ns slave delay, read/write transfer speed is increased to 48MHz. Up to now there was a limitation at around 30MHz. With the new configuration, all SAM3 devices will be able to run at full speed on the SPI devices.
