The second commonly used architecture is the low voltage positive area. An example of this is a 12V storage system where the main power switch is on the high side with the hot swap controller residing there also. The ADM1177 is shown in this configuration. In this case, the gate voltage needs to be higher than the main supply to enhance the N-channel MOSFET. The ADM1177 also integrates digital power monitoring to allow the user to digitally read back the voltage and the current.
