Another factor to be aware of is the Vgsth of the MOSFET which indicates if the controller can adequately drive the gate to full enhancement. Having the proper Vgsth will ensure minimum power loss across the MOSFET and lowest heat dissipation. Finally, the Safe Operating Area (SOA) must be maintained in order to protect the MOSFET from destruction. The TIMER capacitor, discussed next, will ensure the SOA is maintained. The load capacitance will have a factor in determining the length of time it may take for the load voltage to rise up. The SOA should therefore be long enough to complete this in charge-up conditions and yet short enough at worst case conditions to protect the MOSFET.
