The layout of components in the hot swap loop is critical to correct operation, good accuracy, and thermal efficiency. If using a 4-pin sense resistor, then the layout is simple enough as the sense lines are already defined. However, in most cases a simple 2-pad sense resistor will be used. In this case it is very important that the correct points on the pad are used for sensing the voltage drop. Kelvin sense lines are recommended from the center of the resistor footprint. Additionally, the Sense Resistor should not be placed too close to heat sources like the MOSFET as a temperature rise may lead to inaccuracies due to resistor TC.
