In summary, the SimpleLink™ WiFi® CC3000 is a self-contained solution that hosts most of the software that allows it to be used with a low cost microcontroller. This device enables features such as Smart Config technology which helps the customer as they integrate a CC3000-enabled device into their home wireless network. Service Discovery is a feature which provides the ability to display the devices connected to the network and utilize the various commands available for each. Lowered minimum memory requirements for the host microcontroller permit the CC3000 to be connected to a low cost MCU such as a value line MSP430. Customers can quickly enable the device to connect to the Internet, or to the ‘Cloud’. TI has identified two partners to support Cloud connectivity, Exosite and Cosm.
