There has been a push in the industry to achieve the highest efficiency possible to reduce power loss and annual operating cost of running servers, base stations and other telecom computing equipment while still increasing power density. Devices such as the power block and the power stage allow reduced power loss in the power conversion while operating at higher switching frequencies. This allows power designers to meet the latest stringent efficiency and solution size requirements. This slide shows how the overall solution size can be reduced with power block and power stage devices. The discrete solution size includes three components, the power block solution integrates both control and synchronous MOSFETs and it is 43% smaller than the discrete solution. The power stage solution integrates the control and synchronous MOSFETs and the driver IC and is 56% smaller than the discrete solution.
