To aid system designers interested in evaluating the performance of EPC’s eGaN FETs with the Texas Instruments driver, EPC has released a GaN based 1/8th brick converter. The EPC9102 demonstration board is a 12V regulated output, 375kHz phase-shifted full bridge with a maximum output current of 17A and a 36V to 60V input voltage range. The EPC9102 features the EPC2001 enhancement mode gallium nitride FETs in conjunction with the LM5113 gate driver. In this slide we have compared the performance against a comparable, commercially available silicon-based eight brick. Despite the eGaN FET converter operating at 50% higher frequency, it is able to produce 33% more output power for the same power loss.
