The presentation will now focus on device-specific clock options. Shown here is the 11x and 12x basic clock system with an LFXT1, 32768 hertz crystal oscillator. Also shown is the DCO which again is the on-chip, on-demand oscillator. On the right are the clock names for A Clock, M Clock and SM Clock. The A Clock and SM Clock source all of the peripherals while the M Clock sources the CPU and some of the peripherals. Each device has different clocking options shown in the family users guide, but all MSP430s have this basic set of LFXT1, DCO and a clock distribution tree.
