Power Inductor Basics Slide 8

The right hand rule is an easy way to determine and recall the direction of the magnetic field lines using the known conventional current direction. Because of the orientation (shown by the right hand rule) of the magnetic field produced by the changing current, it is extremely advantageous to wind the conductor into a coil shape. The theoretical inductance formula on the next slide will help to illustrate the relationship between the number of turns in a coil and the resulting inductance.
