Power Inductor Basics Slide 22

What must be done if higher inductance and higher saturation current is needed at the same time? There are at least three ways to achieve this. First, use a bigger core. This is the easiest solution, but is often times not possible due to size limitations of the application. The next solution is to add more turns to the coil. However, with this there is a trade off between temperature rise and saturation current. Lastly, a core with a higher Bmax can be utilized. This is a trade off among cost, inductance, losses, saturation, etc.
