Environmental Sensors Roadmap Slide 4
This slide shows some of the key advantages for customers to consider. The LPS25 is feature rich but has a very small PCB footprint at only 2.5 mm square. This small size allows the designer more placement options to locate the sensor in a low-impact area of their system. ST has made some changes in the ASIC design which allows the device to achieve high resolution using a lower number of samples than previous products, reducing power consumption in LPS25. Internally, the new FIFO and the interrupt capability of the device are key features. The reference circuit for the temp sensor has been redesigned, allowing the device to achieve a low 0.01 mbar RMS noise. Some other features which are significantly improved compared to previous pressure sensors include built in quadratic compensation – this allows the device to have a linear accuracy curve across the full operating range, especially important at the high and low end of the range where traditional pressure sensors have a roll-off of accuracy, due to the natural behavior of piezo resistance across a wide temperature range. With the built-in quadratic,  FIFO, and fast conversion time, the LPS25 is ideal for sport and fitness applications where fast response is needed without the tradeoff of power consumption.
