The advantages of shielded vs. un-shielded inductors should be considered when making the initial selection. Shielded inductors present low magnetic radiation because a special protective shield is incorporated to their design. The magnetic field generated by the inductor is contained within the unit by virtue of this shield surrounding the entire frame. The powerful magnetic shield utilized in the shielded SMD series produces the value added benefits of yielding higher inductances and lower DC resistances per the same volumetric size as their un-shielded counterparts.
