The current GR-1089 document is at Issue 6. All NEBS compliant equipment must now comply with this version. One major change was the revision of the power fault criteria. The previous 600V, 60A test condition, along with other 600V conditions, were replaced with lower 425V levels. This new issue also includes specific test guidance for Ethernet and PoE (Power over Ethernet) interfaces, taking into account the total number of wire pairs being used (10/100 Base-T Vs. 1000 Base-T or 10GbE ports). Specific “Smith” termination testing is also outlined. Further testing was added for the customer side of an ONT (Optical Network Termination) due to the exposure caused by tension members (also known as “locate” wires) along the optical fiber. Test connections A5 and A6 are common mode events as defined within GR-1089. Littelfuse has a succinct summary of GR-1089 that is available by contacting the local Littelfuse support team.
