As it was noted earlier, there are also some disadvantages to brushed and brushless DC motor technology. Brushed DC motors can be noisy due to their arching brushes. The brushes can also be unreliable and are normally the limiting factor in rotation speeds. The disadvantages of a brushless DC motor have to do with cost, as they require a more expensive controller. They also have higher start-up costs and normally require longer development time.
