In fairness to those unfamiliar with DC motor terms, there are actually no true DC motors. All motors create a rotating magnetic field by switching their magnetizing coils on and off. There are two basic types of DC motors: brushed DC motors which use embedded mechanical switches (brushes) to switch the magnetizing coils, and brushless DC motors, also known as BLDC motors, which use electronic switches to switch the magnetizing coils. Some brushed motor applications include battery powered tools, windshield wiper motors for automobiles, and electric skateboards. New products using BLDC motors include high-power battery tools such as chain saws, electric power steering for automobiles, golf cart propulsion – to name just a few.
