Another consideration when selecting a switch is whether the circuit may create arcing, as the effect of arcing on contacts is a significant load design factor. There are several distinct consequences of arcing, all of which can affect the type of contacts selected. Sublimation is a situation where material changes from a solid to a vapor and back to a solid. This can obviously have an impact on the contacts themselves if the material from which they are constructed reacts when encountering the solid or the vapor.
