The third design factor to consider is the physical environment where the switch will be used. Ambient temperatures above those for which the switch is designed can reduce insulation resistance and the dielectric properties of plastics, decrease the elastic modulus of the spring material, and interfere with the efficient cooling of the contacts. Humidity can interfere with contact performance, as can particle or chemical contaminants.
