Other circuitry factors include poles, throws, and breaks. Poles are the number of completely separate circuits that pass through the switch at one time. Several examples are provided on the next slide. The number of different circuits that each pole can control is the “throw”. Breaks are the number of pairs of separated contacts the switch introduces into each circuit it opens, or interrupts in the circuit.
