There are usually several contact options when specifying switches for low energy switching, which is typically defined as less than 12V and lower than 0.4A. Silver contacts easily oxidize and a low-energy arc does not clean the contacts when switched, as does a high-energy arc. For any application where sulfides or moisture are present, silver contacts should not be used unless they are contained within a sealed switch. Sealed switches should also be used if particle contamination of the contacts is anticipated or if a film contaminant such as paint spray or oil mist is present in the application.
