NXP achieves ultra low power in several ways. First, six power saving run and wait modes allow the CPU to run at reduced speed and maximize power efficiency in standby. These low power modes enable full operation of the microcontroller even at reduced frequencies. Clock gating is another method used to achieve ultra low power. It gives the engineer the ability to turn off clock signals to unused peripherals which greatly reduces the current in run and wait modes.
