When switching, huge inrush currents must be avoided and a designer tasked with creating slew rate control would need a lot of components to have a robust solution. This circuit is an example of a high side power switch with active HIGH operation. Take note that if V_OUT is greater than V_IN this is no longer a switch but a diode. A good power switch incorporates slew rate control and repairs the diode issue.
