Circuit response to overcurrents that are not severe respond after a delay time denoted as tBlank. Very short load spikes or noise bursts are therefore ignored for robust system behavior. If the event is longer than tBlank typical power switches respond in one of three ways. One response is the Latch-Off Mode, which latches the switch into an OFF state with an overcurrent event. An external event such as power cycling or toggling the enable pin is required to reengage the switch. A second approach is an Auto-Restart. After the switch has been disabled for a time (tRSTRT), the switch is turned back on. This loop of activity will continue as long as there is an overload. The third type of response is called Current Source Mode which maintains a limited current. This will continue until the load is corrected or may eventually result in Thermal Shutdown.
