The maxiFLOW™ heatsink exhibits less premature egress than other types of heatsinks and this is due to the lesser flow restriction through the heatsink. Remember that airflow follows the path of least resistance, so giving the airflow less incentive to leave the heatsink retains the airflow within the interior. Keeping the air contained within the length of the heatsink is important to increasing heat transfer across the entire heatsink, not specifically the entrance area. This effects downstream components: so a more even inlet airflow profile downstream means more airflow to the downstream heatsink base.
