Many applications require an aggressive fire safety rating. In the interest of preventing the spread of flame, a designer often avoids placing any kind of fuel on the board. This includes many flammable materials which could otherwise be useful such as rubber, plastic, or some composites. To comply with stringent fire safety restrictions, the maxiGRIP™ is made from two materials which both are corrosion resistant and fire retardant - 300 series stainless steel and polyphenylsulfone. Note the flame test which was conducted using a high temperature flame. The plastic material self extinguishes immediately after removing the flame, and the heatsink and clip attachments are still in place.
