This slide shows a compute requirement analysis that customers can perform using TI DSP products. The RF demodulation is being done on 1.2 GHz DSP shown on the left and the rest is being done on the DSP embedded on the OMAP SOC. There are other products that can do the single and SOC type functions shown on the bottom, but the C6455 and OMAP are being used for this example. Because the C64x+ DSP core is common in both products and is code compatible, customers can migrate algorithms between the two easily. In this analysis, when running the scan converter and the color flow and the speckle reduction all on the OMAP, the capability would be exceeded. Therefore, it may be necessary to either move the color flow block to the more powerful DSP or run the speckle reduction at a lower frame rate, which customers sometimes do. It is possible to make performance tradeoffs with a system requirements in this manner and make adjustments in software to accommodate the revised system.
