Shown in this slide is a generic portable medical application. There are many applications that are possible with the MSP430, such as blood glucose meters, pulse oximeters, digital thermometers, and more. There are a few basic blocks to which the sensors on the front-end can be added. The inputs from these will be amplified, filtered, and digitized to go into the microcontroller. The microcontroller will do the processing, and then display the result to the user. The benefit of the integrated LCD controller is evident in this application. The slide shows an FG479, which is capable of communicating via one of TI’s wireless transceivers, it is also capable of communicating over USB. Other capabilities such as voice, battery operation are also shown. In short, with a minimal number of external components, there are many possible applications with an MSP430 SoC.
