In this slide, an example is shown of an MSP430 being used in an ECG application; specifically this is using the MSP430FG439, one of TI’s SoC devices. The application note, SLAA280A, provides all the technical details for this application. Basically there are electrodes providing an input into the microcontroller which performs signal conditioning, and then is capable of providing a heart rate output to the LCD. In addition, if the user has connected a serial cable to their computer, it is possible to view the ECG waveform. This is a simple example, but very applicable for the consumer and portable medical market. Also available online are the reference design, the software, and PC GUI.
