Looking at medical devices, it is possible to see a very broad and diverse market. TI divides medical devices into four basic segments, as shown in the diagram in this slide. The first of these is medical imaging, which consists of devices such as ultrasound machines, CT scanners. Next is patient diagnostics, monitoring and therapy. This group includes devices like sleep apnea machines, digital stethoscopes, and hospital monitors. The third group is medical instruments, a broad category that ranges from lab equipment such as blood analyzers to dental and surgical instruments. Finally, consumer and portable medical devices includes products that consumers typically purchase and use in their homes. This would include devices such as blood pressure monitors, blood glucose meters, digital thermometers, among others. This product training module will focus mainly on the last segment.
