The second LM3466 benefit is the automatic and accurate current balancing for string-to-string matching. As described earlier, it uses a dynamic current equalization control scheme, in which each LM3466 communicates with every other LM3466 so that the entire system can split the current equally through each LED string. A lighting designer does not have to worry about exactly matching each LED string, including paying a premium for binned LEDs, since the LM3466 will ensure each string is balanced regardless of differences in LED string forward voltage. The graph on this slide depicts a channel-to-channel LED current in a five-string system. The LM3466 ensures each LED string is matched to within 0.5% over the full input voltage range. While not shown on this slide, it ensures this accurate matching over the full -40°C to +125°C temperature range. Please consult the LM3466 datasheet for more information.
