The first benefit of the LM3466 is that it is easy to use without excessive costs. An entire multi-string LED lighting system can be designed with an off-the-shelf constant current supply, which are widely available, with one LM3466, one resistor, and one capacitor per string. This makes it easy to quickly get a sellable, differentiated product to market. While the LM3466 does not compete with the extreme low cost of a ballast resistor, the very small footprint and low component count provide system level savings over alternative LED driver solutions.
