The LM3466 combines the best attributes of the existing series-parallel LED drive solutions as it is essentially an intelligent ballast resistor. It is easy to incorporate in a design and is cost effective. As will be shown over the next few slides, very few additional components are required. Like traditional LED drivers, the LM3466 ensures automatic, accurate current balancing through each string for even brightness. It can also achieve high efficiencies to minimize loss and heat, thereby improving system reliability. As a bonus, the product is designed especially for LED lighting systems and offers fault protection and reporting, features that are not found on traditional constant voltage linear power regulators.
