MAX3221E and SNx5C3221E are 1-driver, 1-receiver, RS232 solutions. Again, these devices also offer IEC ESD protection. The MAX version is 250 Kbps data rate and the SNx5C3221E is 1000 Kbps data rate. This device offers an auto power down feature which saves power without changes of the existing BIOS operating system. This device also operates at 3.3V or 5V with the help of an internal charge pump circuit.  Because of the reduced bit count 1-driver, and 1-receiver, this device is suitable for space saving applications like cell phones, PDA's, IP phones, and so on.
