Shown in this slide are the amplitudes and durations of three common ESD tests. The grey line illustrates the Human Body Model test which lasts about 150 nS, is approximately 1.3 A at its maximum current, and tests normally at 2 kV. The black line shows the Charge Device Model test, lasting 1 nS, at about 2-5 A depending upon the device package, and normally is tested at 2 kV. Last, the red line shows the IEC ESD test, which has two main portions; a 30 A, 15 nS peak pulse, and then a second pulse with a 16 A peak that lasts the full 150 nS. The IEC level test is considered the ‘Gold Standard’ in ESD tests, which is why it is shown most prevalently.
