Now a brief history lesson. At the top of the slide is capacitive based isolation technology that is based on the work of Ewald Georg von Kleist who invented the first recorded capacitor in 1745. The next is inductive based isolation, which is based on Michael Faraday's principles of transformers, which was done in 1831. Finally, the most recent development is opto-coupler based isolation, which Zarlink invented in 1968.
