There are many opportunities to use isolation, shown on this slide is an example system with three places that can benefit from isolation. The first is isolation between the CAN transceiver and the DSPs. This ensures the information from the CAN BUS is delivered to the DSP and breaks up the ground loop. Secondly, between the ADC and the DSP, where the ADC could be attached to a field side and have extremely noisy inputs that now will be blocked. Lastly, on the output between what the DSP is driving and its amplifiers, the DSP does not need to touch the 480 volt motor. These are examples of places where isolation can be used.
