Increased protocol speeds led to the development of the SFP+ interface, which extends the SFP form factor to support applications to 10Gb/s, such as 8G Fibre Channel and 10G Ethernet. Cages are offered in the same port configurations as SFP, with elastomeric gaskets and enhanced EMI springs to address EMI containment at the higher data rates. The connector is also optimized for the higher speeds, but with the same mating interface and host board footprint as SFP. An SFP plug will mate with an SFP+ cage and connector. MSA compliant passive and active SFP+ copper cable assemblies are also available.
