EMC-Slide6

A ferrite bead is an EMC component which suppresses noise by creating a series impedance. The impedance is a function of frequency and varies according to the ferrite material used. On this slide, Fig.1 shows impedance Vs. frequency characteristics of a typical chip bead. The resistive component of the bead becomes dominant (as opposed to the reactance) at high frequency allowing the chip beads to convert the noise into thermal energy.
