A common-mode solution using a common-mode filter (CMF) is very effective in reducing noise emissions from cables. Typically, cable EMI problems are caused by common-mode noise. A CMF, such as a ferrite core, is often selected as an EMC counter-measure at the interface. TDK’s CMF family consists of 2 to 8 line single package filters that achieve noise suppression of multi-line interfaces. They typically will not reduce differential-mode signal integrity since the common mode filters have low differential-mode impedance. Therefore, these components can be used as an EMC counter-measure for high speed differential-mode transmission lines.
