Welcome to the TDK EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Components product training module. This presentation will discuss what general EMC problems may occur during the PCB design process and the components available to solve these problems. EMC components can include damping resistors, decoupling capacitors, ferrite chip beads, etc. However, this module centers around the magnetic (inductive) components such as ferrite chip beads. TDK is always studying the best EMC solutions from the point of view of: materials, various products, and chamber and evaluations systems. Noise sources are indefinite with the various design situations, and a wrong EMI countermeasure could bring about worse problems. The countermeasure must be placed at the closest point of the noise source, such as VCC line for LSI, speed signal line and clock line, etc. by using some EMC components. The positive and negative effects created by a component are always different with each situation. TDK also proposes the best EMC solution on an individual design basis and evaluates not only static characteristics such as impedance, but also noise emission in an anechoic chamber along with signal integrity.
